The debate about which is more important (a list of email subscribers or a list of RSS subscribers) to your internet marketing business has been going on in my head for quite some time now…
Do you place more of a value on one or the other?
Personally I recommend trying to build both and creating different content for each.
There’s no telling what may happen with email deliverability in the near future and as it stands now, it’s already a pretty big obstacle that needs to be overcome. Even if you’re using Aweber, which is the standard in email deliverability, you’re only getting an estimated 90% deliverability rate and they have agreements with providers like Gmail, Yahoo and AOL!
I received an email from Site Pro News regarding this same topic and the folks at Site Pro News site the following 3 reasons in favor of RSS:
- 100% deliverability – with email deliverability where it’s at this is a pretty big plus for RSS
- No spam – nobody likes spam so this is another big plus for RSS
- Ability to add video and audio – Site Pro News has this at the top of their list…
My biggest concern with RSS is that virtually nobody knows about it yet (everybody’s still using email) and thus nobody’s using it but I do like the benefits that it offers over email.
Until I know more about the future of email and rss, I’ll continue to build a list of both.
RSS or email?
