How to Make Money Online with Adsense

by SWP on February 17, 2008

I’m not a big fan of making money online with Google Adsense for 2 primary reasons:

  1. You have to build hundreds if not thousands of websites to generate all the traffic (using Black Hat Blog networks) you’ll need to reach a decent income
  2. or you can throw boatloads of cash at pay per click traffic (to speed up the process) and generate the same amount of profit but you’ll end up glued to your monitor constantly monitoring campaign statistics.

These are 2 things the make money online gurus don’t tell you when they’re selling you that $97 eBook for making a fortune with Google Adsense and contextual advertising… they don’t tell you this because it’s an obstacle to buying and doing so would reduce the conversion rate of their sales page.

If spamming the internet with spam Blogs (Splogs) and spam sites to make money online doesn’t bother you and you’re interested, make sure to check out this post: Make Money for Beginners. It’s an excellent post and tutorial on how you can get started with earning an income online with Adsense and free Blogs. It’s also realistic, it’s free and it spares you the BS.

Here’s a quote from his post illustrating exactly what you have to do to earn a decent Adsense income using PPC:

“A lot of those screen shots show you the money they brought in. They never tell you how much they spent to earn that income. They may make $600 a day but if they are using adwords to generate traffic then they likely spent several hundred a day as well. They always show you the gross, not the net. This doesn’t mean that they aren’t making a profit – they are or they wouldn’t continue day after day – but that their profit is a lot less than they lead you to believe. This is done in order to make you believe that the product they are selling will help you generate profits of $600 a day. If they were completely honest they would admit that it might generate SALES of $600 a day – not PROFITS.”

OK so you already know the make money online gurus lied to you about how much money they were making and here’s something else…

The truth is that the big guys making bank off of Adsense and other advertising networks for that matter are fully engaged in Black Hat tactics to generate traffic to their revenue generating sites.

Nothing wrong with that in my opinion and I present it to you here so that you know what you’re up against. IMO, it’s a good idea to stay abreast of Black Hat techniques… You should always know what your competitors might be doing to generate traffic.

“This is the best way for a beginner to start out(using free traffic). Build a blog on a particular niche(topic), create good quality content for it, have Google index and rank your page high for your keyword (topic) and sit back as Google sends hordes of visitors to your site. Finally, count your money from all the Adsense clicks. Right? Well almost.

This is the procedure but they don’t tell you that to make serious money at this you will need to create thousands of blogs. Yes, you heard right. Your main blogs will be decent pages addressing the needs of your visitors and suitable for marketing products. The majority of the blogs however, will be set up to simply generate Adsense clicks and provide links to help your main blogs get ranked. The articles will be unique but crappy and visitors that end up on these blogs will quickly leave – hopefully by clicking an ad that will take them to where they were trying to go in the first place. This is called spam blogging and as unethical as it seems, it is how you make a lot of money with Adsense. No one talks about this aspect of making adsense profits. No one wants to admit that they use this tactic and yet this is the only way to generate a lot of money with Adsense with out spending money to get traffic.”

So there you have it and that’s why I’m not too fond of making money online with Google Adsense…

It’s too much work really…

Create thousands of Blogs (that might get deleted mind you) just to generate traffic to other Blogs (your money Blogs) that you might be able to get some clicks on and oh yeah you’ll also have to spend all day glued to your monitor so you can actively watch your campaign profits…

Wouldn’t want those profits to turn into losses would you?

I have to respectfully disagree with you here.

It does not take 1,000’s of sites to earn a decent income with Adsense and blackhat is also not needed.

It takes in depth keyword research, smart keyword selection, quality unique content, basic on-page SEO, stout off page SEO (link building etc.).

Great blog though, I’ll be reading :)

Chris

OK Chris so maybe thousands was an overstatement…

But my concern with an Adsense based model has always been the requirement to have websites that have A LOT of unique visitors every single day.

If you’re focused on building the types of sites you’re talking (high quality sites with unique content that you’re also going to take the time to SEO) about then I think there are much better ways to monetize the sites then with Adsense.

Thanks for taking the time.
