Don’t Build A Business For Somebody Else; Sell Your Own Products

One of the problems with all of the online opportunities that surround us and bombard our email in boxes every single day is that virtually none of them revolve around building a business for you. This is particularly true online.
People are always talking about building a “business” with no money and starting it with no money… but the fact of the matter is when you start with nothing you usually end up with nothing.
People that have been making a living online have been thrown a lot of curve balls the past few years and I can tell you one of the biggest lessons I’ve ever learned is to build sites that promote your own products or services. I have several sites that sell products from local businesses that I’ve cut deals with to sell their products online. I also offer seo services and consulting here: Los Angeles SEO. The point is diversify and don’t become too dependent on any one form of revenue if you want to survive online.
The reason behind this is simple. Affiliate programs online are a fickle bunch and they change their terms often and often those changes will have a dramatic effect/impact on your income. I don’t know about you but I don’t like seeingĀ my income fluctuate.
For example… A while back EPN (eBay affiliate program) was paying me out $40 a pop for new users and a couple months ago that dropped to $10 per new user. The quality of the traffic I sent didn’t change (it was all search engine traffic) their “terms” changed and along with it my monthly income.
This isn’t a bitch post this is a this has happend before and it will happen again post… whether you’re building sites for Adsense or eBay or any other affiliate program you have to realize that you’re not building a business for yourself, you’re building a buisiness for them and it’s subject to their terms and conditions. Not a good position to be in if you’re looking for any kind of stability.
Once you figure out how to drive traffic to a website you should start to look at what niches you might be able to develop your own product in. Info products are fine (most folks are looking for info online anyway) so long as the products are yours or you have the rights to them because there are no payout fluctuations in products that you own. Whatever you charge that’s what you get paid.
Trying to build a steady income with Adsense or eBay EPN or any other affiliate program can be disastrous becuase you can work your butt off to get it off the ground only to see it taken away from you literally as you are just beginning to build steam.
