Split Test Your Sales Pages and Ads for Better Results

by SWP on February 3, 2008

I remember it as if it was yesterday…

The first sales page I ever slapped up on the internet was for a book on bodybuilding and it took me about 4 months to write the thing…

If I recall correctly I must’ve made over 50 revisions to the damn thing and in my mind when I was done with it, it was going to convert at some absolutely sick rate like 25% or something.

Sure it was absurd but I was stupid and the two made for a lethal combination…

In hindsight what I should’ve done was just create two sales pages and split test them against each other until one stood as the clear favorite.

It’s what I continue to do today to achieve the results I’m looking for.

If you want to continually improve on your previous results then you’ll want to continue to develop new sales pages that you can split test against your “control”.

If you’re asking how the hell I can continue to develop new and different sales pages check out this post on swipe files.

Think of your control as the sales page that is your current “champion” and it stays champion until another sales page comes along and gives you a better conversion rate.

To me it’s a game and I’m always competing with myself to produce a sale page that yields better results.

It’s just like a baseball player or a basketball player trying to improve his batting average or his shooting percentage.

I don’t know what it is…

Something about being a marketer just makes me want to continually produce new and different marketing ploys that suck up more and more money…
